Artist's Note

I start my work by transferring the scene
captured in my memory to the screen.

The green shapes floating in my unconscious
become grass, trees, and fields.
They represent the deep green I encountered
in nature while growing up on Jeju Island.

I use crude but natural lines and masses to
not only reproduce the landscapes of Jeju
but express the gaze I cast on nature.
Accordingly, the green color I use represents
the traces left behind after repetitive filtering.

It evokes the senses that have been forgotten
in everyday life, allowing me to reflect on the
interaction between yesterday and today,
others and me, and time and space.

The winding road with exceptionally pointed trees,
thick soil, and black stone walls reminds me of
my childhood neighborhood or a lonely field or
sad landscape that I saw on a tiring day.

The meaning of individual shapes, such as
circles and triangles, and where and
how they exist are not that important.
My work is a scene created by reassembling
the images that my eyes saw and still exist in my memory.
