Artist's Note

I collect bottles that have images of nature on them,
such as mountains, flowers, and the sea, and paint
the bottles by expanding these images.

The act of attaching such magnificent and beautiful
images of nature to these small containers that are
used only once and thrown away intrigues me.

It seems to me that people these days experience nature,
such as flowers, mountains, and the ocean, not directly
but indirectly through visual images of nature captured
and applied to the surface of commodities in the market.

I visit the mountains across the nation and even the Alps
and the Himalayas simply by looking at the images
on the empty bottles I have collected.
It may perhaps be closely related to the intertwining of
modern consumer culture with the busy urban life.

Through my work, I wanted to talk about the way people
of my generation experience and consume nature.
In a sense, this is ultimately a work that reflects me as
someone who is accustomed to the consumer culture
in Seoul, a global city.
